Does it always have to be a depressing experience?
Does it always have to be a depressing experience? The answer is no. Unfortunately, I did not have the option of whether or not i want to visit Mariner Health at Conway Lakes, 5201 Curry Ford Rd, Orlando FL, because my grandmother was recently submitted there after miraculously surviving a 5% chance of survival surgery in the ICU. Previously, I thought long term care facilities were smelly, uninviting, hostile, and depressing, but the experience I experienced this time was a loving and helpful environment with a functional, upbeat staff that was really there to care for their residents and want them to be as comfortable as possible. I saw a women that was lifeless slowly, with the help of the facility, get not only to where she was before, but better. Although sometimes sad to be in, I was impressed with how lively the staff made the facility by trying to give it a more homely feel. After speaking with the administrator I learned of the many different programs they offer, mostly decided by which insurance every resident has. I learned of different "home like" aspects of the facility such as a dining room area that a residents family can occupy to have dinners as they would at home. Overall, I was very impressed with the faculty and the rooms, and it made me even really consider possibly working at a long term care facility one day!
